Perfect Bath Bombs

So, another wet bank holiday weekend!

Doesn’t take long for the kids (and some of the grown-ups) to get bored and grumpy, and frankly we’ve done enough Monopoly and Scrabble for one summer!

Well, what about making something? No, not more cupcakes – what about trying some bath bombs.

Everybody loves bath bombs, and they are fairly simple to make – and even if they do go wrong, no-one has to eat them!

Here is a fairly simple recipe that should keep everyone occupied for a while, and when it’s over you have a legitimate reason to lock yourself in the bathroom for an hour or so!

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz Bicarbonate of soda
  • 4 oz citric acid (from the chemist or anyone that sells wine making kits)
  • 4 oz cornflour
  • 4 0z salt
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 10 drops of fragrant oil
  • 1 or 2 drops of food

Method

Mix the dry ingredients; then mix them again and again. It is really important to get them properly mixed up.

Add colouring and oil.

Now, the tricky bit. Drip the water in, constantly mixing all the time – using your hands is fine! Keep mixing until the mixture squishes together like wet sand. If you add too much water too quickly the mixture will start to fizz.

Pack the mixture into bath bomb moulds (use muffin trays, ice cube moulds etc).

Leave them to dry for about 3-4 hours, then tap them out and there you have it – beautiful hand made bath bombs………………….
