Celebrity Big Brother house gets a patriotic makeover

The short respite from Big Brother is over as a handful of ‘celebrities’ brave maximum exposure in the newly transformed house for our viewing pleasure. Along with luxurious touches befitting any Z-lister and design tweaks to the interior, the latest Celebrity Big Brother house comes with its own theme: UK vs. USA.

Home turf or stateside?

The house’s updated interior plays tribute to both the UK and USA with the heavy use of red, white and blue, representing the Union Jack and the American flag. In fact, there’s an undoubtedly patriotic feel throughout, which is guaranteed to evoke the competitive spirit in all of the housemates, regardless of which side of the pond their loyalties lie.

The kitchen diner

Burgers and fries are definitely on the menu with the newly transformed kitchen and dining area emulating a 50s style American diner, complete with black and white chequerboard flooring. Iconic memorabilia, including American licence plates, adorn its mint green walls and red and white crockery takes centre stage on the themed dining table.

The Lounge

The familiar circular sofa remains with a makeover in blue and looks functional and inviting. However, its two halves most definitely symbolise the two competing nations. Again red, white and blue is the overriding colour theme with Rule Britannia imagery, Union Jack cushions, a Mod target wall freeze and plenty of stars and stripes to keep the homesickness at bay for the Americans.

The Bedroom

With a less patriotic feel, the bedroom introduces colour blocking in bright primary colours plus an injection of bubblegum pink. Pop Art style imagery of the celebs on the walls and bedding, mirrored furniture and sparkly accessories suggest neutral territory for the competing housemates. But will the symbolism be too subtle for the housemates?

The Bathroom

Moving away from the SeaWorld Florida themed bathroom of the civilian series earlier in the year, the Celebrity Big Brother bathroom reignites patriotic passion with the inclusion of an iconic red telephone box marking the entrance to the shower, swans and a wall freeze of Big Ben. Banquette style seating and blue counter top basins with under sink storage; invite the housemates to get to know each other while performing their daily ablutions.

The Garden

Giant wall freezes of the New York skyline and a typically British stately home in the garden test housemates’ allegiance to their country. The iconic Statue of Liberty resides in the pool and flagpoles wait to fly either the UK or USA flag as the two nations compete to rule the roost. With the introduction of two new housemates competing for either the position of Prime Minister or President, things are set to get interesting in the Celebrity Big Brother house.

Design ideas to steal

The totally British trend of Union Jacks on just about everything in our homes is nothing new, but we particularly like Big Brother’s use of both the British and American flag as abstract graphic imagery on the walls. We’re also pretty partial to the colour blocking and Pop Art imagery in the bedroom, as well as the American style diner.
