Bathroom Trends for 2016
Looking to update your bathroom this year? These trends will inspire you to create the most en vogue washroom to be proud of throughout this year and beyond.
Back to nature
Design-led bathroom trade shows such as Milan’s Salone del Mobile and Paris’ Ideobain indicated that the natural materials would be a key focus in 2016 bathroom design. Natural stone and hardwoods will be favoured over the man-made materials that have been prevalent in recent years. Wooden wash stands, vanities and bathroom accessories are increasing in popularity. Wooden floors for bathrooms are also increasing in popularity.
If you choose to bring in these natural wood and stone finishes, you should complement this style with other earthy tones. Replace chrome fittings with warmer copper or brass taps. Green accents and patterned tiles work especially well with timber finishes.
Moroccan chic
Patterned tiles look set to make a comeback in 2016, with Moroccan cement tiles already growing in popularity. Using a variety of tile designs, you can create a unique patchwork floor that really catches the eye. You could even go all-out with tadelakt walls for the full Moroccan look. This is a fully waterproof plaster surface, and very common in Moroccan riads. The plaster creates a gorgeously seamless design to contrast the busy tiled floor.
Bold as brass
Brass is the trend for 2016. Whether it’s an elegant light fitting or a modern soap dish; brass accents add a feeling of warmth, with a hint of class. When updating to brass tapware, you could choose between polished, brushed or antiqued patinas. Match the style of brass to the overall bathroom look that you want to achieve. We’re seeing an increasing number of bathroom designers moving away from the standard chrome taps to the subtle glamour of brass.
