Boutique = Sophisticated and Specialised

Boutique Hotels

The term ‘Boutique Hotel’ was first coined back in the 1980s by Steve Rubell, one of the founders of Morgan’s Hotel in New York. Rubell used the term to liken Morgan’s to a small, stylish boutique shop rather than a larger department store.

Since then, boutique hotels have sprung up all around the globe. They rarely use purpose built buildings, so with creative styling each hotel is unique. Boutique hotels tend to use very fashionable furnishings to create aspirational interiors – which is why many people are keen to replicate this trend in their own homes.

Bedrooms were the first to get this treatment as people felt inspired to recreate the styles they’d experienced in boutique hotel rooms; but it’s such a varied style that it can be applied to every room of your house. With such fantastic modern bathroom fittings available, it’s possible to recreate that glamorous feel in your own bathroom too.  Or if you have the space, maybe you’re tempted to install a roll top bath in your bedroom?

Getting the look

Many boutique hotels are in older repurposed buildings, such as a former cotton mill in Leeds, a school in Amsterdam and of course the odd French château.  However, the great thing about boutique bathroom design is its versatility.  The range of contemporary fittings found at Livinghouse will ensure the boutique style will look stunning in a period terrace, an old country farmhouse, or even within ultra-modern architecture.

Sometimes the design works best if it reflects the period, but equally the juxtaposition of contemporary fittings in a period building can look even more impressive.

Which style?

Whether to go modern contemporary, Art Deco, or French Chateau?  At Livinghouse you’ll find a wide selection of bathroom suites that will effortlessly create that aspirational, boutique look.

Some of our favourites include the retro Art Deco Collection, the clean lines of Pure Collection, and the funky Nouveau White range.

Bathroom furniture can also add to the style.  For instance,our Tres Beau French style furniture can completely change the mood of your bathroom by creating a focal point from which to develop the room’s overall design.

Don’t forget to look to boutique hotels themselves for style inspiration. As a starting point, check out Great Small Hotels and Hotel du Vin’s websites.
