In our Colour choices in 2016 blog<\/a><\/u>\u00a0we reported on Pantone’s spring colour predictions and Dulux’s colours for the year. We learnt that there would be several dark and several muted shades and a whole muddled range of patterns.<\/p>\n

Both companies have also predicted their ‘colour of the year’ for 2016.<\/p>\n

Rose Quartz & Serenity<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pantone chose two colours to feature predominantly throughout 2016: palest pink Rose Quartz and delicate blue, Serenity.<\/p>\n

This is a real break from tradition as usually it is just one colour which takes the honour for the favourite of the year.<\/p>\n

Pantone actually said of these colour choices that although in some parts of the world there was a gender connection for these two colours, there is now a move away from this. There’s less ‘type casting’ about who wears what or which colour is associated with which gender generally.<\/p>\n

Their Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman commented, “Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”<\/p>\n

Go for gold<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meanwhile Dulux has named Cherished Gold as their colour of the year. It’s what Dulux say is a natural progression from 2015’s Copper Blush. Its rich earthy tone will go equally well with pastels or rich jewel tones and in new builds or period homes.<\/p>\n

Cherished Gold is a feel-good all rounder and can certainly add a little glamour to your home.<\/p>\n

Others have their say<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pantone is recognised as the global authority on colour trends and Dulux is a leading paint specialist in the UK but others also have ideas about what colour they expect to see a lot of this year in the interior design world.<\/p>\n

Over at Elle Decor they were favouring Deep Peacock Blue and they weren’t the only ones. Celia Sawyer’s vote went for this colour too (you might have seen her on Channel 4’s Four Rooms). She also favoured other deep colours like Cranberry and Midnight Blue and Gold! She got that part right.<\/p>\n

Dorian Bowen an interior design architect from Penarth was in the Peacock camp too.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Interior designer Claire Gillard went with Contemporary Coral while American stylist Donna Garlow was spot on in naming both Rose Quartz and Serenity. We hope she didn’t have inside knowledge.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

How will you use it?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Which will you make YOUR<\/em> colour of the year and how will you or could you use it? Well of course there is no law that says you must but if you fancy a change, try:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

– Adding an accessory of two in your chosen colour.<\/p>\n

– Painting one wall in a room with your selected colour, i.e. your downstairs cloakroom or a spare bedroom. Use these as test sites.<\/p>\n

– If you definitely know you love one of these colours, then be brave and inject them into your next big room makeover this year.<\/p>\n

Here at Livinghouse we’re quite keen on the deep peacock. One thing’s for sure, Livinghouse’s beautiful contemporary bathrooms<\/a> will work well with most colours.<\/p>\n
