It’s that time of year again, when social media and TV are awash with Christmas adverts. As major brands compete for airtime and viral status online, we’re treated to the good, the bad and the ugly of seasonal advertising.
Most ‘talked’ about
So whose advert is the most ‘talked’ about so far? It has to be John Lewis’ advert featuring Monty the Penguin (insert collective ‘aah’). With 202,953 shares in its first 24 hours online (source: Unruly), the advert has most definitely gone viral. And you know what that means? Penguins will be everywhere…even bathrooms.
If your passion for penguins has been reignited, here are a few subtle design ideas to add a touch of Monty to your bathroom.
The literary penguin
Perfect for cloakrooms, Penguin Book cover themed wallpaper offers a grown up take on the penguin trend. Unfortunately this is not ‘available from most good book stores’, but you can find this page-turning wallpaper online.
Don’t fancy a whole wall of Penguin Book covers? Then look skyward and opt for a Penguin Book cover lampshade instead. It’s a great way to shed some light on your reading material.
The marching penguin
Fun with a design edge; minimalist wall decals allow you to combine your love of penguins with your contemporary bathroom without it feeling too Disney. Stick just above the skirting board, along the bath edge or as a backdrop to your sink to add a hint of Monty to your design.
The reflective penguin
Ideal for a family bathroom or avid Monty fans, this mirror leaves the user in no doubt that you have a fondness for penguins.
The blink and you’ll miss it penguin
Okay so this takes a little imagination, but a sink replicating a hole in the ice definitely says imaginary penguin to us. The sink stays true to ultra contemporary design, whilst providing a familiar looking bathing hole for your penguin, imaginary or not.
The retro penguin
Again this wallpaper doesn’t shout penguin, but its teal retro-feel pattern is definitely made up of plenty of the cute creatures. Use on a feature wall in your bathroom or to add a little quirky style to your cloakroom.
The Keep Calm penguin
Why not mix the ongoing trend for Keep Calm and Carry On prints with penguins? This print says all there is to be said on the matter.

The not so literal penguin
Take inspiration from Monty without plastering your bathroom in penguins by using a penguin-inspired colour theme instead. Soft, blues and greys work really well in shower rooms, cloakrooms, bathrooms and en suites. Explore Design-seeds.com for even more colour palettes to inspire your decorating scheme.
