Autumn/Winter Trend 2015: Malachite

Marble has long been a popular choice for bathrooms and kitchens. Combining both beauty and durability, it brings a sense of luxury to these very necessary rooms in our homes. But a new trend for Autumn/Winter 2015 sees the resurgence of an equally stunning mineral in deep emerald. Say hello to Malachite.

If you have a penchant for green, then no doubt you’ll have come across this mesmerizingly beautiful mineral before. Historically it’s been used for accessories, vases and decorative features, and featured in architecture. As well as being heavily referenced on the catwalk recently by Osman and Issey Miyake, Malachite’s intense green hue and psychedelic patterning is now making a welcome return to our interiors.

Deeply dramatic wall coverings

When used on a large scale, Malachite is anything but subtle. If you’re keen to move away from the safety of an all white bathroom and embrace colour, then team Malachite tiles with an ultra contemporary bath in black or grey, a black gloss porcelain floor and black accessories to make a truly powerful statement.

If you’re looking to inject instant colour, then Malachite patterned wallpaper by Fornasetti for Cole & Sons is the way to go. Perfect for bathrooms, en suites and cloakrooms, a little bit of Malachite green goes a long way to brighten up proceedings.

Love the pattern of Malachite but not a fan of green? Then why not opt for a much subtler monochrome look by using Fornasetti’s black and white wallpaper designed for Cole & sons?

Team with an elegant washstand, pale grey tiling and chequerboard flooring for a stylish nod to the trend.

Standalone statement pieces

Whilst this beautiful sideboard by Boca do Lobo doesn’t boast the familiar pattern of Malachite, its design does reflect the angles of precious stones and the colour is unmistakably emerald. Perfect if you love the idea of a bold piece of furniture to create a real talking point.

Functional and beautiful, chairs, sofas and footstools sporting the Malachite pattern in various shades of green allow you to seamlessly incorporate the trend into your home.

How about this gorgeous entrance hall table to stop visitors in their tracks? Beautifully proportioned, its slim, elegant form makes it ideal for hallways where space is at a premium and adds just enough colour to perk up an all white interior. The pink and black accessories are a nice touch too.

Subtle accessories

Not even accessories have escaped this popular pattern and colour way. With cushions, throws and bits and bobs all widely available, you can add a little hint of Malachite to your room design or embrace green fully with complementary wall colours.
