Sticking with tradition

If you’re a traditionalist at heart, then a contemporary bathroom might not be for you. Don’t worry, with beautiful modern takes on retro, vintage and period bathroom fixtures and fittings widely available, you can easily put the traditional back in your bathroom.

The big performer

What’s a bathroom without a bath? Well, a shower room or a wet room, but you see where we’re going with this one. Modern versions of traditional baths are stylish and often lighter than their period counterparts, which is good news for your floor.

If you’re partial to freestanding roll top baths then you have a wide range of choice available to you. From Victorian and Rocco Art Deco roll tops, to Bateau baths, Slipper baths and Double Ended Victorian roll tops baths, all deliver period grace, elegance and a relaxing soak.

Available in polished aluminium, black and classic white, many come with paintable exteriors allowing you to match them to your room scheme.

The finer details

To complete your bath’s authentic period feel luxury and designer taps with a nod to the traditional are also widely available. For a real Victorian feel, opt for bath fillers with a cradle attachment that can be wall, deck or floor mounted or positioned on the rim of the bath. Whatever style of tap you’re tempted by, they come in a range of finishes including nickel, gold, polished copper, stainless steel and chrome to complete the look.

The heat provider

There’s no need to emulate the draughty bathrooms of yesteryear when there are a multitude of traditional radiators on offer to heat up your bathroom. Victorian cast iron radiators are a popular choice and it’s easy to see why as they’re available in two, four and six column versions and a range of colours. Opt for white, cream or black to keep it classic, choose English Green or French Beige for a heritage feel or add a contemporary twist with pink, blue, silver or gold.

And for something a little more ornate, choose a Rocco cast iron radiator available in eight different colours, including antique gold, gold, old penny, copper, cast iron, pewter, black and anthracite.

Beyond the bathroom

Turn on the period charm with traditional-styled Bakelite electrical light switches on solid oak patresses. Available in light, medium and dark oak, these British-manufactured light switches bring period authenticity to your home. The range also includes TV aerial and satellite sockets, telephone and Internet wall sockets and cooker sockets to complete the traditional feel throughout your home.
