Salone del Mobile – The World’s greatest interior design show

There is great excitement in the air as we head into April – it’s time for this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan. This is heralded as world’s leading trade fair showing everything for the home from soft furnishings to furniture and more. It’s an Ideal Home Exhibition with real Pizzazz!

The show is split into many different parts and different pavilions – more than 24 of them – even more exhausting than most exhibitions. But there is a free shuttle bus to take you between pavilions so that have more time to actually check out the exhibits.

New innovations from young designers

The general public can gain access on the last two days of the show, 18th & 19th and must buy tickets on the door for 30 Euros or 49 Euros for a family ticket. If you are really interested in innovation the SaloneSatellite shouldn’t be missed.

This part of the show is where ‘young designers’ (those under 35) can show off their ideas and innovations. This part of the show has free entry and the general public have access throughout the time of the show from 14th – 19th April.

Many well known designers got their first helping hand by showing their skills here first.

Focus on lighting

While there will be exhibits for all parts of the house and sometimes for the workplace, the focus this year is on lighting and energy. This is not least because 2015 is UNESCO’s International Year of Light.

But don’t think this means that there will be nothing else to see. As we said this is the world’s largest interiors show attracting exhibitors and visitors from around the world. Last year’s show saw more than 300,000 visitors arrive in Milan for the event.

Salone Ufficio: Workplace 3.0

Another feature this year is Workplace 3.0 which focuses on the design of the workplace. So if you have a business or an interest in this area, don’t miss this.

Bathroom innovations

The International Bathroom Exhibition takes place at Salone del Mobile on even numbered years which means there may not be so much of interest for bathroom lovers this year. Though we are sure you will find ideas to use in the decoration of your bathroom even if there are no fixtures on show.

But if you want to peruse or get your hands on some gorgeous contemporary Italian designed bathroom fixtures, take a look at the Livinghouse website. Here you will find some quality pieces that you will want to grace your home.

The Salone 2015 App

Another way to see what is going on if you cannot visit the show is to download the Salone 2015 App. This will give you insight into the whole event including 24 pavilions and help you to find particular stands. This App is only available for iOS iPhones and the iPad.

Don’t forget when visiting the Salone del Mobile website to choose Inglese (English) on the button in the top right hand corner – unless your Italian is molto buona.
