Autumn Design Shows

The UK will be hosting two iconic interiors exhibitions in September. Both are aimed at the trade so it’s where designers, retailers and manufacturers go to exhibit or to find ideas and products for future investment. The two shows in question are 100% Design and Decorex.

Both exhibitions showcase the best and combine exhibits of products with a range of seminars.

The best in contemporary design

100% Design is in its 20th year and will be opened by the iconic French designer, Philippe Starck. The exhibition has a wide audience with a variety of different areas and spin-off shows held in a number of venues. The main show is at Earls Court from 17th to 20th September. Another bonus for 100% Design is that on the last day, Saturday 20th September, it’s open to the public too.

A kaleidoscope theme

We’re sure you remember playing with toy kaleidoscopes as a child. Looking into the mirrored tube which contained pieces of coloured glass, beads or foil produced a myriad of mosaic patterns.

The word kaleidoscope comes from the Greek kalos which means beautiful and eidos which means form which explains why the word was chosen.

Design Kaleidoscope will be the theme for this year’s 100% Design and will showcase stand-out design from shows over the 20 years.

Partnering with Houzz

100% Design has also partnered with Houzz this year. Houzz is an online community where 400,000 designers professionals and brands ‘reside’; it is a great inspiration source for those looking for decoration or interior design ideas and around 20 million homeowners visit the site every month for this purpose. It’s definitely the place to see and be seen.

Visit the Foam Dome

Always looking for innovation, the Foam Dome has been created to emulate bath foams and spa like treatments. Enter the white mesh dome where a constant stream of foam made up of air, water and soap is emitted. In this cloud-like environment you’ll find ceramics by Turkishceramics (i.e. sinks, toilets etc), fluffy white towels and more.

If bathrooms are your thing then look out for other design delights Saneux, Keramag, Teuco, Catalano, Zuchetti Design and Methven for some of the best in contemporary bathroom design. In fact there is a whole area of the exhibition designated to the best in kitchen and bathroom design.

Other features

There will be international pavilions featuring designers and products from around the world; an eco build section for those with a green eye or concern; an emerging brands area. In fact anything you want to know about the latest in design.

Decorex 2014:

Decorex is the exhibition for British luxury and is a favourite with top interior designers. It is held at Syon Park in London between 21st and 24th September this year.

Like 100% Design, it is essentially a trade show, but Decorex also opens its doors to the public from 1 p.m. till 7 p.m. on Tuesday 23rd September.

300 exhibitors

Decorex has more than 300 exhibitors of classic to modern products and some that may be future ‘heritage’ pieces.  Every room is represented, including bathrooms with exhibitors such as William Holland Ltd showcasing their copper baths; Serdanelli for the best in French taps; Devon and Devon will be showcasing their newest development – Music.

Stand out design

Music is a bathroom vanity unit inspired by the glamour of the Roaring Twenties. Its lines are described as ‘reminiscent of a vintage piano’ with luxurious tops in either black granite or Belgian black marble. The porcelain basin is available in black or rose white and the cabinet itself in a range of colours to suit everyone from black through grey, white and cream to red, fango, prune and pearl.
